This first module was the beginning to second year, and quite a daunting thing. After receiving the pre-summer brief I set out too explore the possibilities and which direction I wanted to go down for my theme. For this project, my initial idea came after a film fest of Audrey Hepburn classic films and to base my theme around her. I had decided that I would investigate this further to decide which direction I would pursue. After our first critique I established that the theme wasn’t strong enough, and decided to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new theme. I looked at several different ideas but went with art deco as this inspired me most. I researched this, focusing mainly on art deco architecture. I think that because there is such a length of time between first and second year, I was a little rusty, and it took time to get back into the swing of things, I had to organise myself so that I could get back into a routine of completing my work both at home and in college and devised a work plan to help with this.
Overall I think the project went well, I think that I have improved upon my illustration through experimenting with new styles, and also through independently investigating different ways to experiment with layout and to achieve a better presentation. I decided that in my sketchbook instead of filling each page with numerous pictures I included a maximum of 5 images and played around with scale, to achieve this. I think this works really well and reflect in the two mood boards I have completed. I think that I may have been able to include more illustration using different mixed media to improve this even further.
I’m really happy that I decided to change my theme, and think that overall it suits both the market level and customer base that this project is aimed too. I was able to consider aspects such as the placement of the zip or fastening within my designs more competently as I have built a great base of knowledge, from the previous projects I have been involved in. Although it may have been a good idea to develop my ideas teaming this with the key trends that I had looked at to make it more trend appropriate. The body of work I have produced within my portfolio shows through the story of my theme clearly.
